St. Anthony First Annual Kermes/Carnival

We are excited to announce that the first annual St. Anthony Kermes/Carnival will be held on Sunday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kermes is a form of celebration very similar to a carnival or festival, but with A LOT of Mexican food, activities and games. We will combine some of the things we have traditionally done at the parish picnic like pie judging, bingo, and children’s games. The event will be held in the front of St. Anthony with the street closed to create additional space.
The Kermes is something that occurred in September at St. Mary. The Hispanic groups including the Assumption Dance group, Liturgical Dance group, Knights of Columbus, Light and Hope Prayer group, School of Charismatic Formation, and Spanish Mass Choir have cooked all the food. The event will serve as a fundraiser to support St. Anthony sending students to both All Saints and Assumption High School. With the additional of many more children to our parish, our assessment at both schools has gone up considerably.
There will be opportunities for school families to help in this fundraiser.
Food stands will include: Tamales, Enchiladas, Taco Bar, Tortas (Mexican sandwiches), Pambazos, corn on the cob, Mexican drinks, pop in a bag, and much more. There will be plenty of games for children. Entertainment will include dancing, mariachi band, Ballet of Folklorico, and a DJ. We are also planning to have raffles and 50/50 drawings to support the fundraising aspect of this family friendly event.
The main purpose of this festival is to celebrate the one year anniversary of our parish merger, to get to know one another, and to have fun. Alicia Nava Vieyra and Al Gahagan are co-chairing this event. Please mark your calendars and invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join us for a good time for a good cause of supporting Catholic education.
